ICE skating, fairground rides, music, dance and fireworks will fill Accrington town centre on Sunday.

The millennium extravaganza starts at noon and ends at 5.15pm with a fireworks display.

The council is holding its millennium events a week later than other places to ensure people are back home in the borough and also to get better value for money.

The ballroom at the town hall will feature magic, craft and sport activities as well as children's entertainers including Punch and Judy.

One-hour craft and sport activities will take place at noon, 1.15pm, 2.30pm and 3.45pm. Free tickets are available in advance at council buildings and from the Information Centre counter in the town hall on the day.

There will be bar and cafe facilities in the ballroom bar and the Millennium Dome promotional video will feature in the council chamber at 30 minute intervals. Outdoors, there will be:

Ice skating outside the market hall.

Fairground rides in Union Street.

Street entertainers.

Music including a brass band, samba band and jazz.

Clog and morris dancing

Food stalls.

An aerial fireworks display will be fired from the top of the Arndale car park at 5.15pm. For safety reasons, vehicles will be prevented from leaving the car park from 4.50 to 5.20pm.

Eastgate will close from 5 to 5.30pm from Whalley Road to the Hyndburn Road roundabout. Union Street will close to traffic from 8am to 8pm.
