W. Hill (Citizen letters: December 24) refers to the anonymous letter which I, and presumably many others, received about David Christley through the council's internal mail. There were a number of allegations in the letter. However, because they were unsubstantiated and because the letter was anonymous, there was no way that I could check them.
In any case, the allegations were not related to the reasons given for Christley's dismissal. For these reasons, I took no account of the allegations in making my decision to support holding an inquiry into the Christley affair.
There have now been three council meetings about the Christley inquiry. After extensive legal advice, the decision has been taken to proceed with the inquiry. The person who wrote the anonymous letter has clearly failed in their attempt to prevent this happening.
