I WISH to place on record my sincere thanks to members of the public who gave so generously to the Poppy Appeal in 1999, which culminated in a total of £24,900 being raised.

This was an outstanding achievement for the area, which covers the town of Bury and the districts of Tottington and Walshaw, and was a considerable increase on the previous year, when we raised £21,370.

I also wish to thank all the voluntary helpers who gave up their time to assist, sometimes during extremely adverse weather conditions. Their commitment is very much appreciated by myself, as the local organiser, and the Royal British Legion generally.

ERIC W. DAVIDSON,

Lt. Colonel. Rtd.,
