THE Lancaster area has been suffering an increase in thefts from garden sheds and the theft of garden ornaments, claim police.

Birdbaths, gnomes, planters, tools and cycles are all targets for thieves and much of the stolen property is not marked and therefore untraceable.

Most sheds are built with security as a low priority and Crime Prevention Officer, Phil Corris said: "Would you leave £500 or more lying in the middle of your garden because that's what people are effectively doing? If anyone sees anything suspicious they should not go out to investigate but report anything to the police immediately."
