PROVIDERS of childcare for youngsters aged up to two in Blackburn and Darwen will soon be able to borrow equipment to help them in their childminding and day care roles.

A new equipment loan scheme will be launched on Thursday at the Bank Top Community Centre.

Councillor Janice Parker, chairman of the council's lifelong learning committee, said: "The scheme is one of the initiatives of the early years development and childcare partnership in support of the national childcare strategy.

"Resources such as high chairs and double buggies, which are often expensive and are only needed by providers on a short term basis, will be included in the scheme."

The service will be free of charge to childminders and day care providers for children aged under two.

Those wishing to participate in the scheme need to register as a member and will be provided with a registration number and membership card which will be used when items are borrowed.

All registered childminders and private day nurseries who provide childcare for children up to the age of two have been invited to the launch.
