A TWENTY-YEAR-old man was sent to prison for 10 weeks for his fourth offence of driving while disqualified. Blackburn magistrates heard that John Paul Mulchrone was stopped by police in Buncer Lane and said he could not get enough of driving.

Mulchrone, of Lynwood Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, obstructing a police officer by giving false details and driving without insurance.

Basharat Ditta, defending, asked stipendiary magistrate Jonathon Finestein to give Mulchrone a chance. He referred to a recent television programme which suggested that the time must come to end a cycle of offending.

"As far as my client is concerned, that cycle will come to an end if sir will give him a chance," said Mr Ditta.

Mr Finestein said Mr Ditta had been very persuasive and forceful but orders of the court had to be regarded as important. "I have really got no option but to send you to prison today," he said.
