JOHN George Wilkinson-Campion mistakenly thought his driving disqualification had ended after two years.
But his error proved costly when he appeared before Blackburn magistrates and pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.
Wilkinson-Campion, 51, of Neath Close, Blackburn, was fined £500 and disqualified from driving for five years. He was also ordered to pay £60 costs.
Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, said Wilkinson-Campion had been disqualified for four years. Roger Pickles, defending, said his previous solicitor in Kent had told him his disqualification was for two years.
"He accepts that he should have taken steps to confirm his disqualification was over."
