FA Cup 5th round: Everton 2 Preston North End 0

PRESTON's FA Cup dream was ended at Goodison Park on Saturday, but the Second Division side did their reputations no harm in this fifth round clash.

North End threatened Everton's goal on several occasions in the first half, Bjarki Gunnlaugsson a constant threat to the home side's back line.

But the deadlock was eventually broken midway through the second half. Chorley-born Unsworth hit an unstoppable free kick past the stunned Tepi Moilanen to set the ball rolling for the top flight side.

Despite this setback, Preston continued to take the game to their opponents and could easily have snatched an equaliser, Michael Appleton's screwed shot evading both Gunnlaugsson and Jon Macken before rolling wide.

However, it was the home side who extended their lead late on, Moilanen making a great double save from Kevin Campbell before substitute Joe Max-Moore bundled the ball home to seal the win.
