CLITHEROE'S promotion charge suffered a major setback as mid-table Prescot Cables pulled off a big shock, leaving the Blues with only an outside chance of going up.
The home side took advantage of the gale force winds in the first half to blitz Clitheroe's goal, attacking relentlessly - and getting their reward.
Two first half goals effectively sunk Clitheroe, who simply could not cope with Prescot's impressive forward line as they profited handsomely from the freak conditions.
Surprisingly, the first goal did not come until 11 minutes before half time, Paul Heavy dispatching the ball past the despairing Chris Richens to break the deadlock on 34 minutes.
But the home side incresed their lead less than 60 seconds later, Heavy playing in Peter Cumiskey,
The striker then added a classy third five minutes after the break.
Steve Parry's side did manage a late consolation when Andrew Taylor sidefooted into the bottom corner.
To compound their miserable day, Clitheroe's promotion rivals Vauxhall GM extended their lead at the top, leaving the Blues trailing by six points.
