Lancashire Lynx 18 Walney Central 6

LANCASHIRE Lynx eased into the fourth round of the Silk Cut Challenge Cup after defeating National Conference Premier outfit Walney Central in a bruising encounter at Victory Park.

Lynx outscored Walney by four tries to one and deservedly earned their place in the draw with the likes of Wigan and St Helens.

After the game, coach Steve Hampson was not fully satisfied with his team's performance, he said: "It was very frustrating to watch as we created our own problems at times with trying to unload the ball in impossible situations, but all credit to Walney for their performance and keeping going for the full 80 minutes. We had to match them in the tackling stakes and this I felt we did throughout the game"

He also said: Man of the match Paul Norton gave an excellent display especially as he was doubtful up to the last minute with an arm injury and I was impressed with the defensive performance of Phil Farrell on his debut on loan from Wigan."

"The victory has come at a cost however, with Jason Demetriou suffering a broken thumb, Danny Houghton has a possible cracked bone in a finer and Phil Knowles an arm injury."
