RESURFACING work in the centre of Ramsbottom is to be carried out on Sundays to minimise disruption to local people.

Work on Bolton Street and Ramsbottom Lane will start this Sunday and continue every Sunday until March 5.

During the works, traffic will be banned from entering or leaving Carr Street and Bridge Street. Diversions will be set up via Dundee Land and Tanners Street to the south and Crow Lane and Factory Street to the north.

Bury Council highways and traffic management spokesman Coun Steve Perkins, said: "The re-surfacing work is essential and unfortunately because of the location, right in the centre of Ramsbottom, it is bound to cause some disruption no matter when it takes place.

"However, by restricting the operations to Sundays only we hope that it will have the minimum impact on local life.

"Diversions will be in place and wherever possible we are urging motorists to find alternative routes on the five Sundays in question."
