EAST Lancashire was plunged into red alert as raging torrents flooded scores of roads and properties after a day of torrential rain.

On the wettest day of the year, main roads were turned into rivers, leaving villages awash in every part of the county with some of the worst flooding for 15 years.

Emergency services and council workmen helped to bail out flood victims.
