TELEPHONE users in East Lancashire were the worst hit in the county by the winter weather, with some areas suffering eight times the average number of faults.
Some people were still without a working phone as British Telecom engineers battled to repair damage with an eye over one shoulder watching for the next storm to arrive. Worst affected were Burnley and Pendle.
