POLICE want to hear from a "Good Samaritan" who came to the aid of a man assaulted by a gang in Accrington town centre.

Two men in their 30s were assaulted in Infant Street at 3am on Saturday, January 15, after they were approached by a group of younger men.

One of the attackers had offered the victims a slice of pizza from a box he was carrying before the assault happened.

The gang then set about the men, one of whom was kicked by three attackers while he was on the ground.

Police want to hear from a man in his 20s who called an ambulance and used his coat to keep one of the injured men warm.

An Accrington CID spokesman said: "This man was a Good Samaritan and we don't believe he was involved in the assault. But he could have vital information to help us trace these attackers."

One of the attackers was in his early 20s and white, wearing a red long-sleeved shirt.

Information to Accrington CID on 01254 382141.
