A YOUNG mother killed herself with an overdose of tablets and alcohol, an inquest heard.

The hearing was told that Mandy Joleen Hunt, 21, left a note for her partner asking him to tell their two-year-old son that she was "nice."

Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict that Miss Hunt intended to kill herself.

Miss Hunt lived with her partner Anthony Spencer in Dunnyshop Avenue, Accrington, for a year before her death. He told the inquest she had a serious drink problem and also used ecstasy, cannabis on a daily basis, and amphetamine.

On November 15 the electricity had run out and Mandy had said she was going to the Co-op to buy an electricity card. She came back half an hour later carrying five bottles of alcopop WKD and she was annoyed because the Co-op was shut and she had not been able to get the card.

Mr Spencer went to put their son, Liam, to bed, leaving Miss Hunt downstairs drinking. On three occasions she came into the room and Mr Spencer said each time she woke Liam. They argued and he told her to let them go to sleep.

At 11pm Mr Spencer went down stairs and Mandy was asleep on the settee.

Mr Spencer went up the road to his brother's house to borrow some cigarettes, and when he returned blew out the four candles and left Miss Hunt asleep on the settee. During the night he went downstairs and tried to wake Miss Hunt and immediately realised there was something wrong.

A post mortem examination revealed large quantities of paracetamol and propoxythene and a moderate level of alcohol and the pathologist said all three together had proved fatal.

A note found later said: "Tony, I really love you and I am sorry. Please take care of Liam. You should have helped me. See you soon. All my love and heart. Please tell Liam I was nice."
