A BANNED driver who was found behind the wheel, didn't know he was disqualified, Burnley magistrates heard.

John Gary Parkinson, 36, gave false details because he didn't want to get in trouble and thought he might have been disqualified.

Parkinson, of Cog Lane, Burnley, was bailed until February 23, for pre-sentence reports. He admitted driving while disqualified, no insurance, no test certificate and obstructing a police constable.

Richard Taylor, defending, said the car Parkinson was in had been stopped the week before with a different driver. He was fearful he might be disqualified and gave a false name.
