HYNDBURN Homewise is offering free smoke alarms to people aged over 60.
Stocks are limited and people are being urged to contact Homewise today on 232249 or call in at the office at 3 Avenue Parade, Accrington between 9am and 3pm.
The importance of a smoke alarm in homes was stressed by station officer at Accrington fire brigade Chris Waters, who said: "Fatalities resulting from fires in domestic properties are larger by number than industrial premises.
"A simple economic and efficient measure to counter these figures is the installation and maintenance of a domestic smoke alarm."
