DETECTIVES were today quizzing two people about the brutal murder of a Blackburn pensioner Leslie Jackson 10 years ago.

The two suspects were arrested following dawn raids at addresses in Church and Manchester.

Police are not saying whether the people arrested are men or women but they have taken them to separate police stations for questioning.

Horse trader Leslie Jackson, 70, was battered to death at his home in Sussex Drive, Audley, in November, 1990, and his killer has never been traced.

An incident room has been set up at Accrington police station and a number of detectives have been working on the latest lead.

The bloodstained body of the 5ft 1in disabled man was found on the bathroom floor of his ransacked home in a sheltered housing complex by his sister three days after his death. Jewellery had been taken. More than 60 detectives were involved in the murder inquiry and two years after the killing a 30-year-old from Blackburn was arrested but nobody was charged.

Thousands of homes were visited in the Blackburn area and leads were followed up as far afield as Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield.

Police have carried out several reviews of the murder and Detective Superintendent Paul Buschini was recently put in charge of the inquiry.

He said: "This is the latest development in an extensive inquiry and it is the culmination of a long review and a lot of hard work by officers."

Anyone with information should ring the Accrington incident room on 01254 353711 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
