WEST Bromwich Albion's Alan Miller looks like the leading name in the frame to fill the goalkeeping void left in Blackburn Rovers' squad by John Filan's operation.

But he is not the only option, with Rovers still considering other possibilities.

Miller will be available, following the breakdown of new contract talks, on a 'Bosman free' this summer. So the First Division strugglers may be anxious to obtain some financial compensation before then.

Chief executive John Williams said: "There has been some interest in this particular player from us but nothing definite has happened so far."

Miller, outstanding in a third round FA Cup replay at Ewood in December, is also believed to be wanted by Premiership strugglers Bradford City.

There is also the fact that Rovers, who are understood to be looking into at least a couple more options, have yet to decide whether to buy a keeper or simply borrow one until the end of the season when Filan should have recovered from shoulder surgery.

It will not cost them much to buy someone like Miller, a fee of £100,000 at the most is being talked about in the Midlands. But they would then have an extra keeper on the staff long term when Filan is fit again in summer. So manager Tony Parkes must make a decision as to whether to make a permanent signing or look into the loan market for a temporary back-up to Alan Kelly.

If he decides to buy a keeper then Miller could well be his man.
