PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice is to meet Rolls Royce shop stewards at Westminster next week to discuss the future of the company and its Barnoldswick plant in particular.

Union representatives at the factory and the company's other facilities UK-wide will be at the Commons for talks with their local MPs on Wednesday.

They are concerned at changes in working patterns being brought in by the firm and the accompanying possibility of pay cuts and redundancies.

Labour backbencher Mr Prentice said: "I had a two hour meeting with Rolls Royce back in June 1999.

"I know the company is committed to delivering double digit earnings growth to its shareholders, but, at the same time, it must not ignore the people who work for it.

"Just last week there were reports that changes in shift patterns in Barnoldswick could mean a number of workers losing out in their pay packets.

"It has generally been accepted that the company is trying to prevent further job losses but these changes are on top of the 100 job cuts announced just before Christmas.

"We've got a world class company in Rolls Royce but it shouldn't forget the people who made it into what it is.
