Blackburn and Clitheroe schools' heat

LAMMACK Primary School have got real six appeal.

For the Blackburn school have just qualified for the area finals of the Blackburn Rovers Adidas Predator six-a-side finals.

They are already the current Blackburn primary school six-a-side champions - a tournament they have won twice in the last three years.

And they have also qualified for the finals of the borough's five-a-side tournament which makes them the undoubted small sided game specialists.

They cruised through their heat, winning all three group matches, then beat both Grindleton and Balderstone in the round robin final.

It moves them a step closer to a date at Wembley - a chance they missed out when they won the Blackburn school's event because they were overlooked for the Lancashire finals due to an administrative error.

The school scored a total of 14 goals and conceded just two.

Playing their matches in group two, they beat previous area finalists St Peter's 2-1 before beating Roe Lee Primary School 6-1.

With one school dropping out, Lammack secured their place in round robin final with a 3-0 win against St Michael's with St John's.

Grindleton were also convincing winners in their group, winning three and drawing one. Other schools in group one were Brookhouse, St Andrew's, Daisyfield and Griffin Park School. But it was a lot tighter in group three where Balderstone qualified for the final thanks to goal difference.

St Aidan's were the unlucky team as they finished with an identical record as the eventual group winners of two wins and two draws.

But Balderstone went through to the three team final on account of their eight goals scored compared to St Aidan's four.

However in the final, Lammack continued their fine group form to beat Grindleton 1-0 and Balderstone 2-0.

Aaron Rogers finished as their leading scorer with eight goals.

In the remaining match Grindleton and Balderstone drew 1-1.

Lammack have qualified for the area final alongside Salesbury, Avondale and St Mary's of Eccleston.

They will be joined by the winners of the Kendall, Workington and White Haven and Barrow in Furness heats.

The seven teams will meet in the area final will take place at Blackburn Rovers Academy's new indoor pitch on Thursday, March 2.

The winner will then represent Blackburn Rovers in the North West finals which will take place at the same venue a week later.

A total of 110 schools in Lancashire and Cumbria will have taken part in the seven qualifying heats.
