A MAN on remand for theft has been found hanged in his cell.
David Edwards, 31, of Church Street, Stacksteads, died in Armley Prison, Leeds, on Friday.
Police said he was on remand for allegedly snatching a handbag and was a "well known offender".
Edwards went on the run for five days last year when he was sentenced to five months in prison at Rossendale Magistrates Court.
He was charged on that occasion with driving while disqualified, possessing an offensive weapon and other driving offences.
He was eventually arrested and taken to Preston Prison.
