HUNGRY customers buying up sandwiches at bakers Greggs' - which runs seven shops in East Lancashire - helped sales for the year rise.
The company, which trades under the Greggs and Bakers Oven brands, said sales for the year to January 1 had jumped to £308.7 million, up from £291.4 million last time.
Pre-tax profits also buttered up to £21.5 million from £20.2 million in the previous year as the group benefited from a boom in sandwich buying.
Managing director Mike Darrington said: "People don't sit down so much for midday meals and also don't make sandwiches at home so we benefit," he said.
