RESIDENTS in Rectory Road, Burnley, were granted permission by councillors to have their own gardens and put up a protective high fence behind their houses.

The land behind numbers 104 to 166 Rectory Road is spare land created when Cavour Street was demolished in December 1999 and January 2000.

Funding has become available to redevelop the site and the garden plots will be available for lease to the householders.

Each garden will have a single gate onto the back street to the rear of Rectory Road, and optional double gates to either Cavour Street or Holme Road.

An area of land behind number 102 Rectory Road will be planted with trees and shrubs.
