BURNLEY lost the Lancashire soccer derby against rivals Preston but Bertie Bee won the battle of the mascots.
The new look Burnley mascot had thrown out a challenge to Preston's Deepdale Duck to prove who was the county's number one.
The ground was buzzing as the sell-out crowd of 22,000 got ready for the big game.
Bertie Bee the Burnley stinger was carried out on to the pitch by members of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment who had set up an obstacle course. They were accompanied by drummers in ceremonial dress.
It was all too much for the down-hearted duck. But he fought back with a 3-3 score in the penalty shoot-out.
That left Bertie with the number one mascot award presented at half time.
