TWO schools have won cash to improve their grounds.

Holy Saviour RC Primary School, Nelson, and the Rossendale Pupil Referral Unit, Rawtenstall, have each been awarded £100 by the BT Grounds for the Future scheme.

Holy Saviour won the cash for its plans for a play area, while the pupil referral unit's project was a wildlife area.

Gary Burn, project manager of BT Grounds for the Future, said: "What impressed the judges about the projects was the understanding that staff had worked together with the pupils and wider community in planning the projects which will make the schools more fun and interesting places."

The schools also won membership of the charities Learning Through Landscapes and British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
