SOME people will go to great lengths to raise money for charity.

Swimmers in Pendle are participating in a long-distance charity swim.

They are taking on the Millennium Challenge to swim 2,000 lengths of the pool at Colne leisure centre.

Members of the public have been helping to raise money towards the Christies Against Cancer double doughnut scanner appeal.

The first three people to complete the marathon swim were Colne police station's Peter Earnshaw, who has raised £136, Menyn Ashford of Dale View, Earby, who has raised £30, and Terry Knowles, of Napier Street, Nelson, whose effort brought in £100.

Long-distance swim challenges at the pool in recent years have included swimming the equivalent of the English Channel, Loch Ness, Windermere, the Leeds and Liverpool canal and even the boundaries of Pendle.

The idea is to promote swimming as a healthy and safe way to exercise, and the first 100 to complete the distance will receive a pair of goggles from the sponsors Zoggs.
