A TECHNOLOGY college in Blackburn has secured the final slice of sponsorship cash needed to secure Government funding.

Blackburn company RHP Bearings donated £5,000 to the joint technology college set up by Crosshill Special School and Queen's Park High. The donation was the final part of the £100,000 which the two schools had to raise between them to secure match funding from the Government for the project, which will see the schools becoming specialist technology centres.

Crosshill headteacher Mike Hatch said: "I want to thank RHP. It is an excellent example of working in partnership and I am looking forward to working with them in the future."

Mr Hatch said the funding had already allowed Crosshill to buy 50 new computers and install an integrated learning system which will be used not only by Crosshill pupils but also by other schools in the Education Action Zone.

RHP Bearing plant manager Steve Regan is pictured, second right, presenting the cheque to education action zone chairman Mike Murray, watched by, from the left, Coun Jim Blackburn, chairman of governors for Queen's Park High School, Mike Hatch, Queen's Park head Vicki Devonport and Ron Woods, chairman of governors for Crosshill School.
