TED Taylor, the Blackburn Rovers youth scout responsible for spotting future stars such as Jason Wilcox and David May, died suddenly at his Bury home on Saturday aged 64.

Mr Taylor, who came from Manchester but lived for a time in Blackburn where he ran the West End YC football team, was preparing to go to a game when he collapsed.

He had been involved with youth scouting at Ewood for more than 20 years and other players he helped to start on a career included Peter Thorne, Keith Hill and Craig Skinner.

"Blackburn Rovers played a big part in his life, he thought the world of them," said his son Philip.

Mr Taylor leaves a wife, Sheila, sons Stephen and Philip and a daughter Catherine. A funeral service will be held at St Bernadette's RC Church, Manchester Road, Bury on Friday at noon.
