PUPILS (pictured) are aiming to bring out the first edition of their own school journal as a result of using our NIE Pick and Mix literacy and numeracy resource.

Throughout March and April, students in all years at Bank Hey School, Blackburn, will be using our educational project based on regular features in the newspaper to help boost basic skills and to give a better understanding of the world around them.

A group of students from the school will also be picking up tips during a visit to our head office and printing plant. The spin off from the project will be a journal, written and produced by pupils, which they hope will become a regular publication.

Our Pick and Mix resource, suitable for pupils in KS2 upwards, can be delivered along with copies of our newspaper, into any school within our circulation area from as little as £10.

For details of this, or for a no obligation viewing of our extensive range of newspaper-based educational resources in your own school, please contact NIE co-ordinator Rita Shaw.
