FIVE top East Lancashire bands played to a packed house at a charity gig in aid of a new theatre for Blackburn.

Organisers of the Red Brick Rock Night at King George's Hall said they were still counting the proceeds but hoped to have raised £2,000 towards the £300,000 campaign to refurbish the Ewood venue.

Established Blackburn band Big Fluff played with Brierfield girl band Earl, who are already being tipped for the top.

Colne group Gecho and Preston band Poindexter also played with The Burn, who won a Battle of the Bands contest two weeks ago to play alongside East Lancashire's top groups.

Hyndburn group Flux were also given the chance to play a short set, although they had had to pull out of the Battle of the Bands contest when guitarist Martin Crabtree was involved in a road accident on the way to the venue.
