POLICE are hunting a man who threatened a shop assistant with a knife before escaping empty handed and then unsuccessfully tried to mug an elderly lady.

The first failed robbery took place around 8.40pm on Saturday, February 26th, in a corner shop in Whalley Road, Blackburn. The man threatened the assistant but fled after his demands for cash were refused.

The second attempted robbery took place around an hour later at the corner of Pasturelands Drive and Whalley Road.

The thief produced a knife and again demanded cash but his intended victim ran off.

The would-be robber is white, 5ft 4in tall, slim and was wearing a woollen hat, a blue jacket and blue tracksuit.

Crimestoppers are offering a reward of £250 for anyone with information which leads to the arrest of the robber. People with information should ring the confidential line on 0800 555111.
