THE disgraced ex-headmaster of a Lancashire prep school was today given leave to appeal against conviction on five counts of indecent assaults on pupils.

An application for bail on behalf of Rory O'Brien, 57, ex-head of Stonyhurst preparatory school, was withdrawn at the Court of Appeal.

A hearing date of March 20 was fixed for the case which involves incidents dating back to the 1970s on three pupils, one now 37 and the other two in their teens.

O'Brien was jailed for three years at Preston Crown Court last month.

After attending Stonyhurst, as did his father and two brothers, O'Brien taught at St Mary's Hall from 1968, became deputy head and then head at the preparatory since 1990.
