IN reply to D Westwell's concerns (Letters, March 2), let me assure all residents of Hyndburn there will be no hidden costs in the closure of area offices.

People will not have to travel in to Accrington to pay their council tax or even have to go further than their local post office.

We have made proposals to the Post Office to have payments taken over the counter, so there will not be more cars on the road and people will not have to move out of our satellite towns to pay council charges.

Also, council tenants will be able to pay their rent at the post offices, making payments easier for a lot of people.

The Conservative council in Hyndburn is showing a real commitment to our post offices, which is more than the Labour government is doing.

COUNCILLOR RUSS DAVIES, Chairman, Housing Businesses Board.
