SWIMMING, cycling and running fans are being invited to take part in the annual Burnley Triathlon on May 14.

The event, which attracted 200 entries last year, will include a 800 metre swim at the Thompson Centre, a 19-mile cycle into Rossendale and Bacup and a five-mile canal run.

For beginners, a novice biathlon, consisting of a 400 metre swim followed by a five mile canal run, is also being organised to provide people with their first taste of multi-sports events.

There will also be three-person team events, with individuals completing one of the disciplines.

There will be special triathlon prizes for competitors over 40 and over 50.

Closing date for entries is May 1.

Entry fees are £16 for the triathlon, £9 for biathlon and £20 for the team event.

Further information is available from Gary Stein at the Thompson Centre on 01282 664444.
