ROAD safety campaigner Anne Ravenhill says she is baffled that motorway tuition for new drivers is not even mentioned in the Government's new road safety strategy.

Mrs Ravenhill, of Burnley, said: "There is no mention of motorways in the report which presents the government road safety strategy and casualty reduction targets for the next ten years.

"I would not say I was angry or annoyed, I am just baffled."

Support for her Learn to Live campaign has been growing, with more than 100 MPs signing an early day motion on the issue supporting her call for motorway training for newly qualified drivers.

But the idea is not even mentioned in the strategy.

Mrs Ravenhill commented: "So much in the report has been unanswered, so much has been left out."

"There is no way my campaign stops here. I have the support of many MPs, the Association of Chief Police Officers and many others. Support has snowballed for the last eight to nine years.

"The only people not on board are the Department of the Environment Transport and the Regions."

She added: "I intend asking Burnley MP Peter Pike to put my case again to the Transport Minister. As far as I am concerned the fight goes on. If they think I will let matters rest they don't know me."

Mrs Ravenhill added: "They have completely ignored everything that has been said by myself and those who have helped me with the campaign.

"I never said that motorway driving should be part of the driving test but that there should be post-test tuition in the interests of safety.

"They have done absolutely nothing, but I am determined to carry on the fight."

The campaign is now on the internet with more than 1,800 people so far calling at the website: www.blenheim.demon.co.uk.
