COUNCILLORS have approved a plan to earmark a playing field for industrial land to help meet demand from businesses.

Pendle Council's Nelson area committee decided to allow a move to use a field at Swinden Clough, off Regent Street, for industry to help meet a shortfall in industrial land in the borough.

The final decision on the future of the site will be made by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, because the move goes against Pendle's local plan, the blueprint which outlines what land can be used for.

The council wants to earmark sufficient land to meet demand from local firms wanting to expand and outside companies wanting to move to the borough.
