THE region's newest peers were being honoured at a civic reception at Blackburn Town Hall today.

Adam Patel, now Lord Patel of Blackburn, and Doreen Massey, now Baroness Massey of Darwen, will meet the Mayor of Blackburn, Coun Salas Kiani, in the Mayor's Parlour.

The two new members of the House of Lords will then be presented with gifts at a celebration evening, also attended by Lord Taylor of Blackburn.

Baroness Massey's brother John Hall will speak at the evening with her former teacher Malcolm Wilson, who remembers her schooldays at Darwen Grammar School.

Lord Patel's friend and colleague Roy Martin and the general secretary of the Indian Workers' Association Ibby Master will also give speeches.
