BUS passengers may have seen attackers who left their victim with a fractured skull in an alley.

Detective Inspector Simon Leach, of Rawtenstall CID, is leading the inquiry into the assault on Sam Woodhouse and wants to speak to every passenger of the 464 Accrington -Rochdale bus.

Mr Woodhouse, 21, of Holden Mill Caravan Park, Haslingden, was found in an alleyway off Manchester Road, Haslingden, at 10.30pm on Tuesday.

DI Leach said: "The bus stops close by and we have already spoken to three witnesses on the bus who saw the scuffle. At least another seven people have seen something, perhaps just the people concerned standing around after the incident. We want to speak to them all.

"Mr Woodhouse is still poorly but he is beginning to communicate with us. We are hoping he will remember more and give us more leads as he improves."
