ALLAN Burton pawned a ring which had belonged to his mother in order to pay catalogue debts.
And when the loan was called in earlier than expected, Burton tried to steal three bottles of malt whisky which he was going to sell.
Burton, of Cherry Tree guest house, Islington, Blackburn, pleaded guilty at Blackburn magistrates to shoplifting at Morrisons and was remanded on bail until March 27 for the preparation of pre sentence reports.
Julian Peers, defending, said the ring had considerable sentimental value. Burton had not expected to have to pay back the loan until Wednesday but demand was made on the Saturday.
