BLACKBURN Rovers striker James Thomas has joined Blackpool on loan and will make his debut against Burnley at Bloomfield Road tonight.

The Welsh under-21 international is expected to replace the injured Darren Byfield and will form a partnership with ex-Rovers front man Mike Newell.

Thomas has never started a senior game for Rovers but has attracted the interest of a number of clubs with his efforts in the reserves. Rovers boss Graeme Souness said today: "It's not a reflection on his performances. He's at a stage in his career where it's an ideal chance for him to gain experience.

"You get to a stage where you need to play first-team football to progress and I can also have him watched in a first-team situation."
