SURVEILLANCE cameras have been installed in Mill Hill in a bid to cut crime in the area.

The area was labelled a 'hotspot' in a special audit carried out to take a close look at crime patterns in the Blackburn and Darwen area.

Mill Hill was seen as an area with problems that needed solving and residents have also been calling for action.

Spy cameras have been installed outside the community centre in New Chapel Street and have been linked up to the police's CCTV system.

Inspector Robin Howard, the man responsible for policing the area, said: "This is one of a number of initiatives we are carrying out in the area.

"We are working with residents and other organisations to improve the situation.

"There is a lot of concern about street lighting and juvenile nuisance and we have been looking at a number of strategies for the area."
