FIREFIGHTERS and police are investigating the cause of a blaze in a controversial nightclub which closed this year after going into liquidation.

The fire started in a store room next to the bar at 5.30pm yesterday at Brassingtons nightclub, Burnley Road, Altham.

Firefighters managed to stop it from spreading to the rest of the building.

Assistant divisional officer Mick Holmes said: "At the moment we don't know the cause of the fire, but we are investigating the matter with the police."

Duncan Adamson, director of Blentford Ltd, which owns the club, ordered the company's winding-up after creditors went unpaid.

Customers had complained about bad service, former employees say they are owed wages and entertainers claim they have not been paid for shows.
