LANCASTER'S political landscape looks all set to change with the launch of an unusual new political party.

The Corrupt Party has been set up in cyberspace with a special website and calls for financial backing from rich businesses and gangsters.

Under the banner headline "It's a big trough, get your snout in!" The Corrupt Party promises to campaign for more power and money - for themselves.

They claim a Corrupt candidate will stand in Lancaster at the next election and, on a more serious note, say the party and website is designed to expose the hypocrisy of the mainstream political parties.

On the website it says: "We want to campaign for transparency and honesty in politics. We've decided to stand in elections as The Corrupt Party in order to highlight and ridicule the corruption of the general political system."

Allegedly compiled by a T. Blair, the website continues: "We still need rich businesses or gangsters to fund a campaign for national government. Offer us cash and we'll look after you.

"Everyone is welcome - after all, we are corrupt!"

The site, which is still under construction and been developed by a Lancaster anarchist group has had 300 hits and is appealing for anyone who wants to join them to send e-mails to

They plan a grand launch in May giving them a year or more to prepare for the next election.
