TINY tot Kyle Storey (pictured) is being hailed a hero by his family after helping to save his brother's life.

Kyle, who has just turned four years old, raised the alarm when his four-month-old brother Kieron stopped breathing and then calmly went to rally round the neighbours.

"For someone so young to have the presence of mind to do that, we thought it was amazing," said proud dad Phil, of Kenilworth Drive, Earby.

"We've spoilt him rotten since then because he was such a star."

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary eventually found Kieron had a rare complaint. He had an enlarged epiglottis, a flap of skin that stops food from going down your airway, that was stopping his breathing.

Kieron had stopped breathing briefly before the drama but started up again once mum Tracey tipped his head back. "He felt a bit hot so Tracey went to get a temperature gauge," said Phil. "As she was searching for it Kyle came and found her and said 'there's something wrong with Kieron'.

"Tracey didn't know what to do so she rang 999 and the ambulance staff told her what to so while the paramedics were on their way. Meanwhile Kyle went round next door and told the neighbours what was happening.

"We thought it was really clever of Kyle to realise something was wrong with Kieron. If he hadn't have gone for his mum so quickly who knows what would have happened to Kieron. Kyle loves his brother and he did all the right things."

Kieron was taken to Airedale Hospital for a check-up. He was transferred to see a specialist in Leeds after his breathing stopped twice more. Surgeons operated to remove part of his epiglottis.

Kyle has been rewarded for his quick-thinking with Pokemon toys and other "goodies".
