TWO pensioners are celebrating after winning £4,500 on the multi-national Scoop 6 bet.

Ted Naylor and Paddy Neylon, who are both from St Helens town centre, are now looking forward to taking part in the follow-up showcase bet at Kempton Park this Saturday.

Ted, who placed the £2 bet, along with 70 other winners will be betting on the showcase race for the chance of a share of a jackpot £360,961.

A delighted Ted, who has been putting his money on the Scoop 6 for the last eight weeks, said: "I wasn't sure if I'd won at first and when I went into the Globe on Saturday night I saw a couple of lads who work in the betting shop and they confirmed that I had won.

"For years me and my mate, Paddy, have shared any winnings we've had over £5 and he was delighted when I told him I had won. I'm using my half of the money for furniture and Paddy's going on holiday to Blackpool soon so he should have a whale of a time. We're both looking forward to Saturday and who knows what lady luck might bring us, but I'm keeping my selection for the showcase race close to my chest."

Terry Crehan, who runs TC Racing in Standish Street where Ted placed his bet, said: "Ted has been coming in here since we opened five years ago and this is his first big win. We're all delighted for him and wish him all the best for Saturday."
