A PRESTON DJ has raised thousands of pounds for charity by running the London Marathon -- just days after a doctor told her she wouldn't even be able to walk the distance.

Rock FM's Sally Stone was being treated in the local accident and emergency on the Monday before the marathon, for excruciating back and knee pain.

But the head-strong star battled through the pain barrier to beat the odds.

Sally said: "The consultant told me that there was no way I could run 26 miles and he didn't think I would be able to walk the distance either.

"He said that I was very unwise to go ahead with it, but I told him that it wasn't what I wanted to hear and asked him for advice on how to get around."

Sally travelled to London on Saturday and hardly slept, worrying about the big day, but she felt surprisingly good when the marathon started.

She added: "I managed to run the first 11 miles. Even in training, I was in so much pain that I only managed around five. My knee went and I ended up in the back of an ambulance where they gave me painkillers but I decided to carry on.

"You just have to keep saying to yourself, 'I can, I can,' and, 'I will I will' to keep yourself going."

She added: "I was crying when I saw the finish line but it was worth it."

Sally believes she has raised around £15,000 for the Help a Local Child charity.
