A TALENTED brother and sister from Newton have proved they are no pushovers when it comes to karate.

Twenty year old Stephen Nelson and his 18 year old sister Sarah both competed in the British and English Karate Championships, which were held on consecutive weekends, and each came home with a very respectable collection of silverware. Stephen is the new All England U21 Heavyweight champion and also took silver medals in both the All England and All British Senior Kata (fighting form) events. Sarah won silvers in the All England U21, Under 65kl and Open weight categories and also took silver in the All British Senior Fight (Kumite) section.

Both Stephen and Sarah have honed their skills at Newton Karate Club in Selwyn Jones Sports Centre and coach, Stephen Scott said: "I am very proud of their achievements. Both Stephen and Sarah have been doing karate since they were six years old and they thoroughly deserve their success. I think each could go on to great things in the future.
