I AGREE wholeheartedly with the letter (Apr 14) regarding Gerard Dunn who suffers from autism.
I also have personal experience of Bury Social Services and their social workers. In my opinion they are autocratic, bureaucratic and are constantly thrusting their ideological opinions on to carers, thinking they know best and not taking into consideration the individual that needs specialised care.
Any opinion or request of the family does not seem to count. Placements should be agreed between social services and the family, but this never seems to happen. Indeed, on occasions, families are left in crisis because placements are refused by social workers who seem to have the ultimate power.
Surely it is about time the chairman of the social services committee had a look at what is happening within that department. As a ratepayer, I feel the council doesn't know what goes on.
