SO, Sir Anthony Hopkins has decided to transfer his allegiance to a foreign flag. This is, of course, his right in our democratic society. However, he can't have his cake and eat it.

By swearing his allegiance to the United States of America he has, in his oath, sworn to uphold the Constitution and to defend America against all foes, both domestic and foreign (this includes Great Britain should the need arise), as well as to have no allegiance to any other flag.

As he now pays all his rates and taxes to his new country, with the exception of any taxes we levy on foreigners earning their crust in England, will he in future only use his American passport on entering this country, where he will be treated with the same respect as any other foreigner?

Also, as American citizens are not allowed to hold foreign titles, will he refrain from calling himself "Sir"? Better still, as he prefers the style of life his new country can give him, cannot his title be rescinded as obsolete?
